1C sugar 1/4 cup water 1 tsp salt 2-3 tsp lemon juice or your preferred acid Sugar at this stage is very sensitive to heat. If your wax is too sticky and runs thru your fingers, it is cooked to low. If your wax is hard, it is cooked to hot. cook this at no lower then 235, no higher then 240. Cold water to test temp w/o thermometer: Drop a string into a cup of cold water. If it gets hard, it was too hot, if it is sticky, it is too cold and if it is like taffy, it is just right.
